Dan Cammish:
“Barcelona was a good opening weekend to my Supercup season, but it really showed just how competitive the championship is. Free practice was very disrupted due to a fluid spillage and I only ran for 16 minutes, which equated to about five laps. Qualifying was good though. After the first run I was down in tenth, so it was a real struggle, it shows just how close the running in Supercup. I managed to hook up the second set of tyres and matched second place to the thousandth. I missed the second pole by two hundredths, but I caught a bit of traffic in the final chicane, it wouldn’t have got me pole for the first race, but it definitely would have for race two.
“I think we lacked a little something in the races. The first race was okay, but we lacked a little bit in the car in a couple of places. I thought if we could fix it, we’d be alright in the Sunday race. The car felt good, but we just lacked speed. We just had no pace in myself and that was where we were. It was a bit disappointing as we were closer to the ultimate speed on Saturday. We’ll have to regroup and have another go at Monaco next time out but I’m happy with the way things went.
“I had two good starts. I had two good races but it’s a matter of understanding tyre management and knowing when to push and when not to. We’ve got some good testing lined up and we’ve got some work to do but it was good. Qualifying was great and the whole weekend was pretty positive, so we’ll work on the race pace. On to the next one.”
