Dan Cammish:
“I’m really excited and looking forward to it. It’s a massive opportunity to step up to the Supercup with probably the best Porsche team anywhere in the world. The Lechner team has such a strong heritage with the Porsche brand and with the Supercup so it’s fantastic to be taking a seat with the 2016 championship-winning team.
“It will be a new car next year so it will be a good opportunity. It’s a little bit faster than the current model I’m used to but it’s not a huge difference. There will be some new circuits as well and the prospect of joining the Formula One support package is really exciting. I can’t wait to get started. I’m going there to win but I’m open and realistic about it. It’s at a level that’s extremely high and will be the biggest challenge I have faced in motorsport.”
Daniel Cammish will step up to the international Porsche Supercup championship in 2017 with the championship-winning Lechner Racing team.
Double Porsche Carrera Cup GB champion Dan will take on his biggest challenge yet entering the Porsche Supercup. He will dovetail the championship with an attempt to claim a historic triple title in the UK series.
For 2017 the Supercup will introduce the second generation of the 991 GT3 Cup car. The new car features a 4-litre, 485 brake horsepower engine and has been designed with an eye towards efficiency and durability. As a consequence, Dan will be on a level playing field with the rest of the Supercup grid in learning the new car and extracting the optimum from it.
The Porsche Supercup will be entering its 25th year of competition as a major support race of the Formula One world championship. The ten-race calendar historically begins at the start of the European season at Barcelona in Spain. It then visits the top circuits in Europe, including Silverstone for the British Grand Prix, and culminates with a doubleheader in Austin at the US Grand Prix.
In 2016 the Lechner Racing team, led by eponymous racer Walter Lechner, took Sven Muller to the title. Dan will be stepping into the driving seat for the championship-winning team, presenting him with his best opportunity to succeed in his debut season.
