Dan Cammish:
“I’m really pleased with my performance in the car and with the speed we had. That was some of the best driving I have done, in terms of putting everything in place from handling the mental stresses to the starts and overtaking. Everything under my control I did as well as I could have, and the car was great and super quick.
“Qualifying was fantastic, finishing P3 behind the two BMWs which clearly had good performance this weekend, and that’s including missing early FP1 with a problem, which put us on the back foot. We’ve got such performance in the car that in race one we were going after Colin [Turkington] when the tyre gave up. We’re still not 100% sure why, but I’m not the only one to have a tyre failure as [Tom] Ingram, [Aiden] Moffatt and all kinds of people have had problems with the softs.
“My recovery in race two from 18th to seventh and then to finish fifth surrounded by drivers on the soft tyre in the last race was a brilliant effort. I go away buoyed that I’ve got a good team, a good car under me, and with the speed we’ve got, I know the results will come.”
Dan Cammish showed strong performance and speed in the British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch last weekend (May 10-12), fighting back to record two top ten finishes.
Knowing the car had good pace after Donington Park, he kept the momentum going through practice, despite battling a problem in the first session, finishing P8 and P3, respectively.
He went out in the first qualifying group later that afternoon, finishing third and moving through to part two, where he was fifth quickest. Earning a spot in the Quick Six shootout for pole, he put in an excellent effort, just 0.066s from the first, but ultimately lining up third for the opening race.
The Yorkshireman started the opening contest well but was pipped into Druids by teammate Ash Sutton on lap one. He then pulled of the same move on Adam Morgan to regain third on lap three and just after, made it past Sutton as well, moving into second place.
Sadly, after that hard work and as he closed in on leader Colin Turkington, he suffered a left-front puncture, making it back to the pits but losing two laps in the process and finishing 18th.
He continued his excellent driving in race two, moving up to 14th in the first few laps, and was running 10th when the Safety Car was called. He then took ninth with a good move into Paddock Hill Bend and gained two more places when rivals were forced to pit with damage, gaining 11 positions in a superb drive.
In the final contest, Dan lined up fifth on the medium tyres with others around him on the softs, but he performed brilliantly, holding his own and retaining his position throughout, crossing the line where he started for a good haul of points for the championship.
Dan and NAPA Racing UK head to Snetterton in Norfolk for rounds seven, eight, and nine of the 2024 British Touring Car Championship season next, over the weekend of May 24-26.
