Dan Cammish:
“At the end of the day, we scored solid points. Saturday wasn’t ideal as we struggled a little bit with the setup balance with a car that was on pole position at Thruxton last year, but we just didn’t have that kind of performance this time. We made changes and made it better for the race day, where we came from ninth to fifth and finished fifth in race two, which are strong results, but not obviously the headline results that we came here wanting.
“Race three was a story of Thruxton. The aero wash and everything takes over and even Ash [Sutton] who’s been dominant kind of went nowhere. It was a tough race to be in the middle of the pack with some fast guys, but we held our own all day. We’ve been in the top four or five for speed all day, and that’s encouraging.
“The step we need to take now to get onto where Ash is what we need to go and understand, because I think it’s in there, it’s just a little bit hidden at the moment. I’m focused on finishing as high as I can in this championship and anything in the top three is a fantastic result. It’s a tough grid of some really talented drivers. There’s a battle going on behind Ash right now that I want to be part of, so we’ll see what we can do.”
Dan Cammish enjoyed three top-eight finishes in the British Touring Car Championship at the weekend (June 3/4), as the series headed to Thruxton in Hampshire for rounds 10, 11, and 12 of the 2023 season.
Consistently inside the top ten throughout free practice, the NAPA Racing UK driver took his Ford Focus ST to ninth place in qualifying, a result he would be disappointed with, but bounced back on race day to move forward on track.
Working with his engineers to tweak the car, he found it better suited to the warm and sunny conditions which settled in place across the weekend. Making the most of an open grid spot ahead of him for the opening contest, Dan moved up two places to seventh off the start, was sixth by the end of the first lap, and moved past Colin Turkington for fifth on lap two, where he would finish the race.
In race two, Dan lost a place to Rory Butcher at the start but by lap six of 16 had made the move back past him, driving off into the distance and increasing the gap. Setting his sights on gaining fourth position Dan ran out of laps before he could overtake Jake Hill, finishing his race once again in a reputable fifth position.
For the final race of the weekend Dan started eighth and was once again in a battle for positions with Butcher. However, with overtaking at a premium due to a closely balanced field, he had a steady race and finished eighth to score a good haul of points for the championship.
He will be back on track in his NAPA Racing UK Ford Focus ST in just two weeks’ time, as the series heads to Oulton Park in Cheshire, where he has finished on the podium three times in the BTCC.
