Dan Cammish:
“It was a bit of a difficult weekend. We were on the back foot from the incident in FP2 with the wheel or tyre failure that curtailed our running very early on, which meant that qualifying was compromised. To be honest, the championship has become so qualifying based that where you start at first tends to be where you finish and that was what it was, we started 14th and finished 13th twice. As much as we wanted to move forward, there was just no opportunity to do so.
“We made a lot of changes to the car for race three and really tried to extract a bit more performance. It was noticeably better, night and day better, really, a lot more competitive, and we finished eighth, so it was nice to end on a positive. Ultimately, there’s a bit of work to do to get this car where I need it to challenge at the front more of the time. It’s only two weeks until we’re back out testing and I think that will be really important for us.
“I really enjoyed my day at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It’s great to be asked to do it as it’s an amazing event. Anyone who has not been really needs to go, because it is a fantastic event for any sort of petrolhead and the run up the hill in the NAPA Racing UK Ford Focus ST was quite cool.”
NAPA Racing UK driver Dan Cammish had a tough weekend on home soil in the British Touring Car Championship, after an off in practice meant he was up against it to recover points scoring finishes on race day.
Heading to Croft in Yorkshire, the Leeds-born racer finished the first practice session inside the top ten, but a failure on either one of his wheels or tyres on his second lap in FP2 sent him off into the gravel at the first turn, Clervaux, leaving him on the back foot.
The Motorbase Performance crew did a great job of repairing the car for qualifying, but the session was disrupted by three separate red flag periods and Dan was held up on his quickest lap, finishing up 14th fastest.
With the field evenly matched, the races were fairly processional affairs, though he was able to gain one place in the opening contest, but finished where he started for race two, taking a pair of 13th places.
Working on the car for the final race, he quickly moved into 12th and cracked the top ten by the fourth lap. Continuing to work hard, he claimed eighth on the penultimate tour with a good move at the Sunny In turn, ending the weekend in positive fashion and giving himself and the team something to build on.
Prior to heading to Croft, Dan represented Napa Racing UK at the famous Goodwood Festival of Speed, taking one of the team’s Ford Focus STs up the hill in 55.21s, but was unable to fight for the shootout as he headed north for BTCC action.
Dan and the team will return to racing at the end of July as the series travels to Knockhill, as well as undertaking some much-needed testing before heading to the popular Scottish venue.
